Girl Dinner' Is the TikTok Recipe You Need After a Long Day

With over 8.7 million views on TikTok, cooking dinner is (effortlessly) fun with this popular concept.

Preparing a home-cooked meal every night can be a tedious and time-consuming task for even  the most passionate of cooks. Whether you're spending the day working, running errands, or surfing the couch, sometimes it feels like grinding a clove of garlic is the last thing you want to do. Thankfully, TikTok has come to the rescue with the #girldinner trend.TikTok creator @liviemaher first posted to #girldinner on May 11 and her video has since racked up over 170,000 likes and 1.2 million views. The hashtag alone has garnered 8.7 million views - it's safe to say people love it.

What exactly is  #girldinner?Maher compares her to a "medieval peasant girl". Meal consisting of a piece of cheese, some pieces of bread, pickled cucumber and grapes. There's nothing aesthetic about it: video after video shows food being carelessly mixed in a way that's appetizing but not very visually appealing (compared to a similar charcuterie platter). Other #girldinner videos feature packets of popcorn, sliced cucumbers, salami, french fries and, in @marieevevenne's case, whipped ricotta and

Tostito seasoned with sea salt. She commented, "Oh god, when I eat cheese and blueberries, I call that my rat girl meal." Others have called this mixed type of meal "cured meats," "French girl meal," or "mouse meal."”

Although the hashtag is #girldinner, there's no limit to who you can give it to, especially if you have kids. After a long day of school, sports, and carpooling, you probably need a casual grab-and-go meal. Table manners can also be served up for the evening and replaced by dipping, dipping and snacking. If you're smart, you can sneak in  healthy options like sliced carrots or celery dipped in peanut butter.  #girldinner is also a great way to rid the fridge and pantry of nearly empty grocery bags and containers.

Also, the #girldinner trend and summer go hand in hand: it's all about relaxing, isn't it? So get off the stove, turn off the oven, and tame your inner medieval peasant. A piece of bread and a slice of cheese may become your favorite meal ever.
